LCIA - Low Cost Intelligent Automation

LCIA stands for "Low Cost Intelligent Automation" and is now a standard production technique across Omron production sites world-wide.

Minimum batch size: ONE!

The concept is a subtle mix between human skills of the operator and Poka-Yoke techniques within the assembly process. Poka-Yoke is Japanese for failure prevention. The LCIA cells are U-shaped and the operator is in standing position. The number of operators in the line is increased as the demand gets higher, hence tailoring resources to demand without having to add extra lines. Using LCIA techniques, Omron maximises the productivity to stay competitive in 'high-wages' countries.

The investment in LCIA lines is low compared to conventional automation. The built-in intelligence in the assembly line gives direct feedback to the operator, reducing human failures to zero defects. LCIA allows ultimate flexibility to handle extremely small batch sizes with quick change over time as well as peak demands.
