Tato Northern Ireland wraps with increased flexibility

A PLC mounting motion control module from Omron is at the heart of a three axis horizontal flow wrapping machine from Argos Packaging developed for Northern Ireland's leading crisp producer Tato. This provides a neat solution to registration problems and gives the company the flexibility to produce multi-pack bags of between six and ten crisp packets.

Innovative control system for wrapping machine

Tato Northern Ireland is a family owned firm producing crisps and other snack foods. Enjoying huge market leadership in Northern Ireland, the company was keen to ensure it maintained that position, and saw benefits in being able to achieve greater flexibility in the numbers of packets of crisps it was able to offer in multi-pack bags, with research showing there was demand for packs ranging from six bags up to ten. With its existing mechanical flow wrapper unable to handle the larger pack sizes, Tato turned to Norwich based Argos Packaging for a more flexible electronically controlled solution.
